Pull the Covers Over Me
April 19, 2007
Super Producer/DJ/Radio Host Mark Ronson just released his second full length album entitled ‘Version’ (import only for now). We have been playing some of the tracks for a while on our show. I have to say of all the cover albums that have been released in the last twenty years, this one is one of the finest. He basically takes pop/rock songs and give them a motown/funk remake. He covers artists such as The Jam, Charlatans UK, The Smiths, The Zutons, Coldplay and Britney Spears. Yes you read right, Britney Spears. He takes Britney’s best produce tune Toxic, and twist it with a little help from ODB.
He also has artists from Amy Winehouse, Lily Allen (who he both help produced), Santogold, Austrailian singer Daniel Merriweather (who is signed to Mark Ronson’s label Allido Records). My favorite track is the Coldplay cover of God Put a Smile On Your Face. It is an instrumental track feat. the Daptone Horns. It is a killer. I really enjoy the Smith’s cover Stop Me feat. Daniel Merriweather (Apparently so does Morrissey and Johnny Marr). Even has a cool radio show over at East Village Radio called Authentic Sh*t
