Nina Simone movie in the works and to star Mary J. Blige

A film about Nina Simone starring Mary J. Blige is supposedly in the works.
The film, an MTV Films/ Paramount Pictures project, will among things take a look at Dr. Nina Simone’s relationship with her manager Clifton Henderson - who met her in Los Angeles in 1996 and was invited by her to move to France. Dr. Simone’s career took off during the 1960s, and the she was renowned for her powerful jazz ballads and protest songs, including “Mississippi Goddam” and “To Be Young, Gifted, and Black” - the song “To Be Young, Gifted, and Black” served as an anthem for the civil rights movement. Dr. Simone lived the later part of her life in France. She died in Carry Le Rouet on April 21st, 2003.
The film will star Mary J Blige as Nina Simone and will be produced by Interscope Records Chairman Jimmy Iovine along with Lauren Lloyd, Gene Kirkwood and Eminem’s manager, Paul Rosenberg. A director has not been named, but the screenplay is to be written by television writer Cynthia Mort (”Will & Grace,” “Roseanne”).
