Finger Lickin’ Good:Dante’s Fried Chicken

Dante serving up some mean mock chicken. Who needs KFC?

Check out this review of party hosted by Dante’s Fried Chicken by Sarah White

The buzz about Dante’s Fried Chicken (DFC) parties is spreading like a hungry flu across New York… and beyond. The concept itself, KFCRIP, not only rolls right off the tongue, but lingers in the air like the smell of the mock chicken nuggets that dear ol’ Dante is cooking up in the room below.

To fully understand my obsession with the DFC, I first have to entice you with the many chapters that create the whole package.

My first few encounters with DFC fans were a little creppy..and they were borderline stalkers. Everyone who spoke of Dante’s nuggets seemed to foam at the mouth and fiend for a taste of his menu.

My first personal experience with Dante’s kitchen was in December, when he invited the whole TRACE Magazine office in for some grub. We were welcomed in with cocktails, bumpin tracks and comfy cushions. As he personally dished us up some of his signature dishes, I must admit, I felt a little drool ease its way down my lip. Smells filled the air as the room quickly was silenced as we stuffed our faces! It was amazing. I could have sworn my mock chicken was fresh from the coop. Seconds… Thirds… I found myself like others paralyzed like others and officially on the DFC wagon.

The illest part of it all, is that it all started from his show, The Dante Fried Chicken Show, where he cooks with and interviews up and comers like Betty Black from Kudu and Santogold.
Check it here.

Since that day, I have been going out of my way to get invited to DFC parties to fight through the crowd for my coconut non-chicken nugget, make you moan grits, and whatever else Dante’s cookin’ up. Read more

Obey Obama!

Obama

Whatever you think of the candidates, you have to admit this country has election idol fever.  Even designer and artist Shepard Fairey has gotten act and backed Obama. Shepard best know for his Obey Giant guerrilla campaign.  He went one step further by creating this poster and proceeds from this print go to produce prints for a large statewide poster campaign. Unfortunately the poster is sold out.

From Shepard’s site

UPDATE: Thanks for all those who bought the print in support of OBEY and OBAMA. Unfortunately, the print is sold out and we do not plan on producing another edition. The edition was released earlier today with great response. The PROGRESS screenprint was exclusively available through OBEY and the HOPE offset print will be distributed by the OBAMA Camp as an awareness campaign.

I believe with great conviction that Barack Obama should be the next President. I have been paying close attention to him since the Democratic convention in 2004. I feel that he is more a statesman than a politician. He was against the war when it was an unpopular position (and Hillary was for the war at that time), Obama is for energy and environmental conservation. He is for healthcare reform. Check him out for yourself www.barackobama.com.

Check out this other political related poster he created and I think is still available

oreo

I caught this over at Huffington Post. A couple of CNN anchors talking about “Reverse Oreo”. If you are still looking for free love from the 70’s, just head over to CNN.

Gerri: Alright Don, you come too.
Kyra: We could bring him along with the girls.
Gerri: Come on!
Kyra: He’s paying! Thanks, Gerri.
Don: A little sandwich!
Kyra: Ooh!
Gerri: Whoa, I have to go now!
Kyra: Yeah, good time. You don’t want to talk about the reverse oreo!

With the streetwear market being as saturated as it is, it’s hard to
stand out and make a living out of your pipe dreams in the fashion
industry. The competition gets raw, days long..nights longer, and you
really have to believe that what you have to offer is better than the
next new brand that will pop up tomorrow.

When I stumbled accross Trainer Spotter, I have to admit I was tempted
to skip over it, but something caught my eye. Something different.
Peices were not only creative, but each had detailing that sealed the
deal. Things I didnt see everday on the average rack of a boutique.
The “English lads” behind the brand use their love for film, music,
culture, and sports wear as fuel to stay in the scene and make a dent,
with exciting and flavorful styles and techniques. Im am really
digging the hoodies (especially without print becuase there is so much
print everywhere these days), sunglasses and the sexy neck lines.
