I’m posting it here because maybe there is some beatmaker in …eg Leeds you haven’t heard of that is really cool.

Quote from the mail Nalden sent out:

“Dutch entrepreneur Nalden aka Naldisney (Nalden.net / Appletree Records) presents HayZee (20) , one of the Netherlands finest talents, by releasing his first beat tape Next Level online as a free download. This young producer HayZee is certainly an upcoming talent and could be recognized by the influence of his passion for 8-bit games in the beats he produced. With games like Mario, Metroid, Megaman as inspiration HayZee started to make beats with this typical 8-bit sound a few years a go. Now, the loading is done and Next Level is his first beat tape containing 8 levels of crazy beats which gives you a pleasure listening for at least 30 minutes.
HayZee also invites every singer or mc to play with vocals of his beats. It would be much appreciated if we all can hear the result too so please e-mail us your Next Level tracks containing vocals and maybe we’ll end up with a limited but Next Level Compact Disc. “

Don’t Misunderstand Lil Wayne

June 12, 2008 | 2 Comments

Alright. I want to say this first.  I really didn’t think I would ever write about Lil Wayne.  What I am about to write might tick some folks off and you know what? I don’t care.  The latest album from Lil Wayne is probably one of the most entertaining hip hop record I have heard in a long time. And I have to say he is very clever with his lyrics.  Of course some of the material is raunchy and offensive, but so is some of the material in shows like The Sopranos, Weeds, even Family Guy.  But what makes these shows great and entertaining is the clever writing just like Tha Carter III.  The album is complex like the human emotion or personality.  I mean take at look at Stereogum’s review of the album and their quest to find people’s favorite lyrics. Even Pitchfork gave it 8.7 out of 10.

The kicker for me is the almost 10 minute song “Misunderstood” where Wayne rants about politics, crime, and Al Sharpton for about 3 minutes.  My favorite beat on the album is “Shoot Me Down” produced by Kanye.  I can see why Santogold’s favorite rapper is Lil Wayne.  Check out this video from Current TV talking about the controversy of the song “Misunderstood” which samples Nina Simone.

R.I.P. Bo Diddley

Legendary musician Bo Diddley dies at the age of 79. To a legend, and music icon. Without his contributions, American music would not have been so rich and diverse.
