Doing the Jigga Mash

December 27, 2007 | Leave a Comment

Jay-Z+Marvin

Ever since Dangermouse created the Grey Album, people have been mashing up Jay-Z albums with music that initially doesn’t make sense. Some of these mash-up albums are good, most are not. Why do people keep on creating these albums? Why it seems to be only Jay-Z? I would love for someone to do a mashup album of an Oukast record, or even a Public Enemy record. Anyway….

Now the American Gangster mashups are popping up on the interweb. I found a couple. One is from Mick Boogie. He mashed up Jay-Z’s American Gangster with Marvin Gaye entitled Brooklyn Soul. The other one is from DJ Skee. He takes the Godfather theme and blends it with American Gangster. You can download both.

American Godfather

Jay-Z & Marvin Gaye - “Hello Brooklyn” from Mick Boogie’s “Brooklyn Soul”

DJ Skee -“Say Hello” from “American Godfather”

OK this could beat Snoop’s Video

December 20, 2007 | Leave a Comment

We all love the new Snoop Video, but this video could kick his ass. I found this unofficial video for “Us Placers” by Lupe, Kanye, Pharrell. It was directed by VA$HTIE. The song was off of the Kanye West mixtape using a radiohead song for the background.

From Youtube:

a spec video directed by VA$HTIE for the song “Us Placers” off Kanye’s mixtape “Can’t Tell Me Nothing”, using child versions of each artist. appearances by: Jamie, Plain Pat, Stephen SB WEAR Barr and Ruffy.

directed by Va$htie. dp’ed by Kira Kelly. edited by Scenario.

this video was shot for the love of the song on zero budget! ie: all the clothes and props were mine or a friends. thanks to everyone who helped out and worked for free :)

special thanks to: the crew, the cast (Jumaane Jr., Nigel, Boogie, Michael and Michaela), Anna Sumilat, Jamie Baratta, Plain Pat, Ruffy (Marcella and Phillip), Elle Clay, Rob Young, JaVon Floyd, Oscar Wild, Erin Lennox, Ben Dickinson, Raul Lopez, Kareem Johnson, Aahmek Richards, Scott Williams, and Stephen Barr.

***please note this was not a commissioned video. none of the artists included on the piece had anything to do with the video***

The 1st Annual Milwaukee Air Guitar Showdown

December 19, 2007 | 3 Comments

air guitar

Our Friend Peter is throwing the 1st Annual Milwaukee Air Guitar Showdown on December 21st at Stonefly Brewery. Entrance fee is $20. All entrants get an exclusive Milwaukee Air-Guitar Showdown t-shirt! Advanced registration is encouraged. Unleash your inner rock star for a chance to win cash prizes.

Each air-guitar contestant performs 60 seconds of his/her (women are encouraged to unleash their inner Lita Ford) favorite, rockin-est guitar jam. Each contestant is responsible for supplying cd with the song that he/she wants to perform, in advance. Just burn the song onto a CD and let us know which 60 second spot you wish to rock to! In advance, you ask, how will I get it to you? Easy. Contact us through myspace and we’ll meet you to pick it up. Or, you can call 414.517.6410 to coordinate pick-up.

JUDGING CRITERIA….YES, THERE WILL BE JUDGES

Criteria For Judging:

Technical Skill:
-
You don’t have to be a professional guitar player, or even a musician to put on an excellent air-guitar performance. You just need to unleash the inner rock star. The judges will be looking for “technical skills”. So, if there’s some intricate fret work, your chances of bringing home the prestigous crown will increase. Get those fingers loose and ready for some Yngwie Malmsteen style solos!

Stage Persona and Presence:
-
Alter ego’s and stage identities are very much encouraged. Consider a name that fits your personality as well as your style of play. The audience wants to see a show and it’s up to you to give them what they want. Do you have the ability to get the house rocking without a real instrument? If so, let us know.

Inner Rock Star:
-
At which point does the performer forget that he/she is playing air guitar and gets lost in the act? When does he/she forget that it’s not a real guitar, but just an imaginary one? That is what we’re looking for. That’s not a real pick in your hand, it’s just your fingers pressed together. Everyone has a bit of an inner rock star in them, but the elite will be able to turn it on December 21st for 1 night in Riverwest. Will it be you?

Now we just need an air DJ competition?
