Ask A Ninja How to Stay Warm

Ninja

Winter is upon us, and it sucks. Living in the midwest for almost 10 years, I am still not use to this brutal cold. When that brutal wind hits your face like rusty nails, it makes you think why I am doing this to myself. I just found out about these Airhole Ninja Masks. They are meant for snowboarders, but damn it; if they work for snowboarders, it should work for me living in the city (plus it will freak people out). They are made from cotton spandex, and come 5 different styles. The styles are named after swords and knives. They cost from $20-$25.

Some Hypnotic Downloads

Hypnotic Flyer

A definite 2007 favorite for the Rhythm Lab. The Hypnotic Brass Ensemble just put up 2 full albums on iTunes and the Amazon MP3 store. Jupiter and Flipside are the names of the album. Go show some support. They also got some freebies as well from a live show they did at the Highline Ballroom in late October.

If you purchase the music through Amazon, you help support 88Nine RadioMilwaukee-Listener Supported Radio.

Hypnotic also put the full recording of their Highline Ballroom gig for download. About 100mb of goodness. There is also a cover of the Art of Noise’s “Moments in Love”.

It is Okay to Vote Player!!!

Okayplayer

Okayplayer is holding its first ever awards show, and you go vote for your favorites.  The nominees and categories are great.  It looks like something that the Grammy’s should  do.(if it wasn’t for the corruption, and crap).  Go over the Okayplayer and get your vote on and at least it won’t be thrown out like some other election process that is held every four years. The winners will be announced December 20th.

Kissey on: Skweee

November 22, 2007 | 2 Comments

(ok, only a half re-post this time )

map of Sweden and Finland

There is a small group of producers out here in the northern-europe, to be exact: mainly in Sweden and Finland (marked red on the map) that are doing a genre called Skweee.

I don’t know how to explain the music better than a romantic, bitter-sweet-electro in a tempo that is more than close to hiphop.

I am a huge sucker for polysaws, I am a huge fan of bitter-sweet-romance. When I first heard or should I type ”experienced” the Dabrye ft Wajeed song Jorgy. I lost track of time. I found myself awakening, when the music was over, from eyeing a wall, closing my mouth that had been paralysed with aah. I hadn’t heard music cry so beautiful in a long, long time…maybe never.

When I listen to Skweee I find this feeling. The sense of songs that are telling me minitales about lonely dancers, about love that can be found but not reached, about finding beauty and ok:ness in the industrial cityscape that you are surrounded by. Finding something heartbeat-earthy in steal. There are 2 labels going strong with this style, a third is one it’s way:

Harmönia and Flogsta Danshall

In Finland it’s becoming big, they have Skweee festivals, skweee radio called “Skweee-like-a-pig” You can say that Skweee is the offbeat/ dillaish-guy’s non-offbeatish scandinavian cousine. Got it? Lol. Some places it’s not at all similar. But then suddenly you can feel and hear things that belongs in old school hip-hop, old school breakdance and lives in the same soundscapes where Detroit and Kraftwerk decide to spend their honeymoon. Sometimes Skweee can be felt as if it goes a little to deep. But I most say that I’m liking it. Old Swedish saying: the taste is like the behind (everyone’s is shaped different)

Check out:

Nation of Skweee there you will find the today known community of Skweee.

Daniel Savio the last track “We call it Skweee” an anthem.
