Killer Bees and Beatles

Wu Tang’s new single ‘The Heart Gently Weeps’ dropped on the internet a few days ago.  It samples the Beatles’ tune ‘While My Guitar Gently Weeps which was written by George Harrison.  There has been a big hoopla that Wu Tang was the first group to officially clear a Beatles sample.  This turn out not to be true. Check out the video below of an interview with RZA which I found at Nah Right. It clears up the whole sampling issue with a cool little story. The track is from their forthcoming album ‘8 Diagrams’.

From Pitchfork:

…I repeat, we DID NOT sample the Beatles, rather we did an INTERPOLATION of the classic George Harrison composition ‘While My Guitar Gently Weeps.’ In a historic collaboration, Dhani Harrison, son of George, through his friendship with the RZA, played guitar on the song and he himself helped secure the REUSE LICENSE. Also appearing on the song are John Frusciante, guitar player for the Red Hot Chili Peppers, and Erykah Badu singing the chorus.

The online mixing site Jamglue is having a remix competition for a new Public Enemy track entitled “Amerikan Gangster” (no relation to Jay-Z’s current work).

Public Enemy (remember them?) is holding a contest called “The Amerikan Gangster Remix Contest” which lets all of you remix the group’s latest single from the latest album “How You Sell Soul To A Soulless People Who Sold Their Soul.” Chuck D and Gary G-Wiz will be picking the best remix. Jamglue is powering this contest, which is running through October 21, 2007.  Jamglue is a thriving online community for creating and personalizing audio. We let you upload and record music, remix it online, and share your hot mixes with everyone. On Jamglue, it’s simple and fun for fans to get INVOLVED with the music they love!

They just completed a T-Pain remix contest. Check out their other contests.
