This post was accidentally deleted when I was updating wordpress. I thought this would be a better time to put it up. Our friends Black Blondie our doing a mini east coast tour this coming weekend. Starting May 4th in Pittsburgh and then on to New York for the Louder than Bombs show on May 5th. They will be playing with the Lab’s favorite Alice Russell, Thunderheist, Stephanie Mckay and DJ Moni at the Delancey.

Then on May 6th they will be at the Black Lily festival. A first of it kind.

Recognizing the parallels between the music and film industries, the Lily will screen narratives, documentaries, music videos, animation and experimental work solicited from an international pool of multi-racial, multi-cultural female directors and producers. Seeking to duplicate the bonding experience between artists that was often cited as one the most enjoyable aspects of the Lily; audiences will enjoy the films in an intimate setting, with the filmmakers on hand for Q & A afterwards. The Lily will also feature panel discussions and workshops for women as well as a Girls’ Workshop.

The Black Lily revival concert on Saturday night will showcase talented female performers in a variety of genres. The concert will echo the spirit of the long running music series, featuring performances by an eclectic mix of today’s most talented musicians.

Mark Ronsonmarkronson2.jpg

Super Producer/DJ/Radio Host Mark Ronson just released his second full length album entitled ‘Version’ (import only for now). We have been playing some of the tracks for a while on our show. I have to say of all the cover albums that have been released in the last twenty years, this one is one of the finest. He basically takes pop/rock songs and give them a motown/funk remake. He covers artists such as The Jam, Charlatans UK, The Smiths, The Zutons, Coldplay and Britney Spears. Yes you read right, Britney Spears. He takes Britney’s best produce tune Toxic, and twist it with a little help from ODB.

He also has artists from Amy Winehouse, Lily Allen (who he both help produced), Santogold, Austrailian singer Daniel Merriweather (who is signed to Mark Ronson’s label Allido Records). My favorite track is the Coldplay cover of God Put a Smile On Your Face. It is an instrumental track feat. the Daptone Horns. It is a killer. I really enjoy the Smith’s cover Stop Me feat. Daniel Merriweather (Apparently so does Morrissey and Johnny Marr). Even has a cool radio show over at East Village Radio called Authentic Sh*t

Tracklisting:
God Put A Smile Upon Your Face feat. The Daptone Horns
Oh My God feat. Lily Allen
Stop Me feat. Daniel Merriweather
Toxic (Version Revisited) feat. Tiggers
Valerie (Version Revisted) feat. Amy Winehouse
Apply Some Pressure feat. Paul Smith
Inversion
Pretty Green feat. Santo Gold
Just feat. Phantom Planet
Amy feat. Kenna
The Only One I Know feat. Robbie Williams
Diversion
L.S.F. (Version Revisited) feat. Kasabian

BWOOD011CDL-300

Gilles Peterson’s label Brownswood Recordings have been putting out some real gems. This release is no different. Singer, songwriter and more Ben Westbeech just dropped is full length, ‘Welcome to the Best Years of Your Life. This release is solid all the way through. It is already in my top 10 of 2007 (it is only April!). His music crosses all musical landscapes and is not your typical whining singer, songwriter material.
Show him some love and buy it. (you can get through itunes too.)

They will be coming to Minneapolis May 19th to First Avenue. So all you Kidz who need a night out in Minneapolis, May 19th is your night
